Activities To Make Learning Ordinal Numbers Amusement For Kindergartners
Learning need not be a challenging exercise for kindergartners especially when it involves ordinal numbers. It is a noticed fact that children learn faster and retain the knowledge too when they do it with activities. Ordinal numbers or number positions as they are popularly referred to can be taught in the best way with games and activities that make young children to want to learn more and yet more. Here are 2 activities that have made learning ordinal numbers fun for kindergartners. Once the ordinal numbers first, second, third fourth, fifth…… tenth is taught and repeated, it would be fun to involve the kindergartners in an amusing ordinal number activity. This game is played with giving each child a stick on which a number is pasted. The children have to stand in the order first, second ….as the teacher calls out each ordinal number. Children may try to one another and in this process, but never the less they would have learnt relationship between numbers and ordinal numbers. Learning ordinal numbers the amusing way with activities to reinforce the concepts could be done with interesting, “Steal the bacon” activity. Here the children could be divided into 2 teams of 10 children each and each team given a name. Then each child in the team is given ordinal numbers as first, second, third……tenth. A handkerchief could be kept in the center. The teacher could call out like “the first of team A and third of team B”. The 2 children try to take away the handkerchief and the child that takes it and runs without being caught brings one point to the team. This would help each child to learn ordinal numbers and have fun too. There could be more ways, with imagination leading to creativity.
